New York City
October, 2003

My Uncle Paul gave me one heck of a graduation present: A week (all expenses paid) vacation to New York City.

Saturday, October 4th

Continental Airlines, Flight 1580. Leaving Seattle/Tacoma Airport at 8:05 am (Pacific Time), Arriving Newark Liberty International Airport at 4:10 pm (East Coast Time). Flight duration: 5hr, 5min.

We stayed at the New York Hilton on 6th Avenue, which is about 8 blocks from Times Square and 5 blocks from Central Park.

6:30 p.m. Mr. K's restaurant (dress: business casual), Lexington Ave. @ E 51st St.

Mr. K's is a fantastic Chinese Resturant. We had a very good visit for probably an hour and a half, talking about everything under the sun, and catching up on several years of family business. It was great to see Paul again, this time in his element.

Sunday, October 5th

11:15 a.m. Walk to Belinda & Paul's apartment

11:30 a.m. Petrossian's Restaurant (dress: business casual), 7th Ave. @ W. 58th St.

We decided to do the tourist thing with my cousin Marc on Sunday, and went to the top of the Empire State Building. This included a trip on the New York Skyride, narrated by Kevin Bacon. This was what you would expect from New York.

The view from the top of the Empire State Building was exactly what I remembered from 20 years ago, minus the World Trade Center of course. The ESB website has some great views online.

5:15 p.m. B&P will meet you in the Hilton lobby, taxi to World Yacht (dress: jacket & tie) Board at 6:00 p.m.

I remember the World Yacht from the one of the other times I was in New York, possibly in the summer of 1987 after I had graduated from High School.

Monday, October 6th

We decided to take turns, and spend each day seeing what one of us really wanted to see. On Monday we went to Chad's first choice, the United Nations.

The United Nations building is actually not on US soil. The 18 acres that make up the UN Headquarters are considered to be International Territory after they were donated to the UN by John D. Rockefeller Jr.

Here is a link to a virtual tour, but I recommend going in person.

7:30 p.m. Paul will meet you at the Majestic Theater, 247 W 44th St. (betw Broadway & 8th Ave.), to give you tickets to Phantom of the Opera begins at 8:00 p.m. (dress: business casual)
